​Alex M. Glockner

Not only did Alex have a keen business sense, but an overwhelming desire to see Portsmouth prosper, aiding materially in the building of the Washington Hotel as well as promoting and advocating the building of the new US Grant Bridge.  All of this was done while he was busy enlarging the hardware store by adding new lines of bicycles, sporting goods, horse drawn carriages and eventually in 1914 Alex obtained a franchise with Chevrolet, becoming Ohio’s second oldest Chevrolet dealership.
